Train to Teach

Initial Teacher Training

Becoming a teacher is a career aspiration that many people have, as it offers the rewarding experience of making a positive difference tothe lives of others. Whether you are just finishing at university and starting out on your working life, or have experience in another field and are looking for a change of career, we are always keen to hear from people with a passion for teaching.

Benefits of training with CDAT

CDAT runs its own School Direct teacher training programme, which provides trainees with a heavily school-based training experience and, we believe, gives them the best possible chance to become highly effective, reflective teachers. We partner withMersey Boroughs ITTandthe University of Chesterto deliver our School Direct programme – with most of the training being delivered by teachers from CDAT schools and members of the CDAT school improvement team. If you train with CDAT, you'll benefit from a small, friendly and dedicated team who are here to help you every step of the way.
Working with our partners, we endeavour to ensure that trainees have relevant, quality exposure to both the practical and theoretical elements of the course, and benefit from working in a small cohort of trainees and carefully selected group of schools.

Other benefits of learning with CDAT include:

  • high potential career opportunities post-training owing to CDAT's family of schools across Cheshire, Wirral and South Manchester
  • practical, hands-on training throughout the year
  • the chance to train in at least 2 contrasting schools, and across the full primary age range (5 to 11: key stages 1 and 2)

  • the chance to be fully immersedin school life
  • availability of CPD opportunities and professional studies at school, during, and after training the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCE) – with opportunities to build on the PGCE at a later date
